I wrote this tune to set Tolkien's words from "The King Of The Golden Hall" from "The Two Towers" to music back in 2002. The verses are not easily within the compass of the pipes but the interlude IS. In 2010 I wrote a funeral march in and salute for pipe band which used that interlude. Then, in 2024, I revisited the piece and decided to arrange the entire "Salute To Eorl The Young" for pipe band; intro, verse and all. The verse had to be broken in a few places to fit the compass of the pipes but I think it came out rather well!
The embellishments in this setting are mine and they are NOT generally of the form sanctioned by The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association. If you are incapable of playing any NEW embellishments you will NOT be able to play this piece. You have been warned!
This is GREAT music. Play it the way I wrote it. Yes, you will need to learn some new embellishments. So what! Take on the challenge and reap the reward!
